What they don’t teach you in driver’s ed

Your seat belt is on; you’ve instructed them on how to adjust the rear view and demanded that they turn down the stereo. Just as they’re pulling out in to traffic you’re wondering if your white-knuckled grip is going to leave a mark on the car’s interior and if you filed your last and will and testament in the appropriate place.
But there is more to driver’s ed that then usual three-point turns and the very important reminder to never, ever text and drive: Insurance. Teaching your inexperienced operator the costs involved and the responsibility that they must shoulder when they take the cars keys is just as important as any driver’s ed lesson.
To help you with the ends and outs of car insurance, the North Carolina Department of Insurance has a made available a valuable guide that will answer all their questions– and yours too. Just because you’re the parent and not a school teacher doesn’t mean you can’t assign a little homework. Take a peek and give your new driver a pop quiz!
